Timeline

1932

Graham’s Dairy Inc. is founded by Ernest R Graham as a milking, bottling, and distributing company.

1947

William A. Graham (Bill) takes over running Graham’s Dairy Inc. from his father.

1952

Graham’s Dairy Inc. ceases its own bottling and distribution of milk but continues to sell to other distributors.

1955

Sengra Development Corporation was formed and, in 1976, changed its name to The Sengra Corporation. The name Sengra was a nod to Ernest R Graham, who served from 1937-1944 in the Florida Senate.

Late 1950s

Lester Collins is hired as the land planner for Miami Lakes. As the mastermind behind the winding, tree-lined streets, the creatively shaped lakes, and the parks, he helped make Miami Lakes an award-winning community and a great place to live, work, and play. Lester provided ongoing consultation on the development of Miami Lakes until his passing in 1993.

1961

Graham’s Dairy Inc. becomes The Graham Company

1962

Miami Lakes officially opens with the first section of homes available for purchase in the Lake Patricia neighborhood.

Lake Patricia Shopping Center opens. The concept was that every resident should be able to buy a gallon of milk and get a haircut within a mile of their home. With that in mind, this convenience center was designed to meet the basic needs of Miami Lakes’ residents. The shopping center and others throughout the community were planned as small commercial operations with each center supported by retailers such as barbers, dry cleaners, convenience stores, restaurants, and gas stations.

1963

Sengra developed a newsletter, the Intercom, which was dropped off on newly constructed doorsteps. The newsletter evolved into the New Town Ledger and shortly thereafter into the Lakes New Towner. In 1975, it converted into the familiar newspaper of today, The Miami Laker. Today, The Miami Laker continues to be distributed at no cost to residents and businesses in Miami Lakes and is the number one source for Miami Lakes area news.

1965

In 1964 construction began for the Miami Lakes Country Club clubhouse and the first hotel, the Miami Lakes Inn; they opened in August 1965. The 18-hole Championship Golf Course was an added amenity for the residents and guests of Miami Lakes. The Golf Course was originally designed by Bill Watts in 1962.

Mid-60s

Sengra Development Corp. is one of the first developers to introduce the construction of Townhomes to South Florida.

1974

Sengra ceased being in the construction side of business. At this time, Sengra’s two subsidiaries, Miami Lakes Development, and Miami Lakes Properties, performed the roles of developing and leasing the properties. Miami Lakes Development involved itself in planning and developing residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Once developed, these were sold to Miami Lakes Properties or to an outsider.

1976

Sengra Development Corp. announced a corporate reorganization and appointment of new officers. William A. Graham (Bill), previously serving as chairman of the board and president of Sengra Development Corp., assumed the positions of chairman of the board and CEO of Sengra. Robert L. Rawls (Lou), former senior vice president and treasurer of Sengra Development Corp. was appointed president.

Development, management, and operational responsibilities were handled by three subsidiary divisions: Miami Lakes Development, Miami Lakes Properties, and Miami Lakes Inn and Country Club. Michael Beebe was appointed president of Miami Lakes Development. David Van Daam was appointed president of Miami Lakes Properties. Sam Mandalari remained manager of the Miami Lakes Inn & Country Club.

1977

Sandra Graham Younts becomes executive vice-president and then managing director of the hospitality division.

1982

William E. Graham became president of Miami Lakes Development. Carol Graham was appointed vice-president of Miami Lakes Properties. Beth Martinez oversaw the apartments.

1985

Sengra and The Graham Company merge to become The Graham Companies. The Graham Companies became a consolidated entity as the developer of Miami Lakes: building, selling, and managing the residential and commercial properties there, along with maintaining their roots in the farming and dairy industry.

1994

A final consolidation of companies brings all entities under The Graham Companies.

2018

Graham Group Holdings (GGH) is established. The Graham Companies and GGH Insurance Company become subsidiaries of GGH.

December 12, 2018: GGH Insurance Company was created under the laws of the State of Utah and approved as a captive insurance company.
